Over 10,000 presents were collected in 2018. Can it be bettered this year?
Christmas is the time for giving back and The Grafton is calling on its local community to show their charitable side once again and support them in their mission to make sure every child has a festive season to remember.
Supported by Star Radio for the first time, the ever-popular Gifting Tree (formerly known as Giving Tree) will return for a thirteenth year and does so off the back of 2018, when over 10,000 gifts were donated to 10 local children charities. The tree will take its place proudly in the Great Court area of the Cambridge shopping centre from Thursday 21 November to Wednesday 18 December.
For anyone wanting to support the children of Cambridgeshire and help them have a Christmas to remember, they can either bring a gift with them when they visit The Grafton or purchase one whilst doing their festive shopping in the centre and place it in the giving box alongside the tree. With stores such as The Entertainer, Debenhams and Gifted – it’s easy to buy and donate at The Grafton.
John O’Shea, centre manager at the shopping centre, is delighted to see this initiative not only return, but reappear with a new name and a new partnership with Star Radio: “Year on year, it never ceases to amaze me how much generosity our local community has when it comes to supporting initiatives like this one.
“For more than a decade, people across Cambridgeshire have donated to our Gifting Tree, which is something we really believe in at The Grafton because there shouldn’t be a single child that doesn’t have an enjoyable and memorable Christmas.
“Last year was incredible – a real highlight of my time here as centre manager – as we collected a record-breaking 10,000 gifts with the help of the community. It’s a bold feat, but ourselves and the team at Star Radio would love nothing more than to go and better that again this year.”
Freddie Scherer, Managing Director at Star Radio added: “The Gifting Tree has become a key part of Christmas in Cambridge and makes a huge difference to those children who might not otherwise receive a present. We’re thrilled to be supporting this fantastic initiative and look forward to being a part of its continuing growth.”
